MAGISTERIO DE ED. INFANTIL O TEORÍA POCO APLICADA // Early Childhood Ed. Degree or unreal experience

Cómo y por qué elegí estudiar Magisterio de Educación Infantil, cual fue mi motivación y experiencia.

Hace 3 años terminé el Grado de Magisterio de Educación Infantil por la UAM (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid). Aún recuerdo la emoción del primer año de carrera, las ganas de empezar a formarme en lo que hoy soy; maestra.

Siempre lo tuve muy claro y es que si hay algo que me apasiona en la vida son las crías: animales y humanas. Pero creo que mi mayor motivación fue crecer junto a mi prima con la que me pasaba las horas jugando a ser "profes: corrigiendo exámenes y castigando a los alumnos rebeldes"; y es que en el juego, como en todo en la vida, imitamos. Imitamos lo que vemos y aprendemos en base a nuestras experiencias. Y yo lo aprendí de mi tía: maestra del Primer Ciclo de Ed. Infantil.

¿Cómo es hoy en día el Grado de Ed. Infantil en la Comunidad Autónoma de Madrid (CAM)?

Respecto a la carrera de Ed. Infantil en la CAM y siguiendo el plan de estudios de la UAM, la duración de esta es de 4 años en los que se combina la "teoría con la práctica". Contempla la educación desde los 0 hasta los 6 años abarcando así tanto el Primer Ciclo de E.I (0-3) como el Segundo Ciclo (3-6), de modo que las salidas profesionales son más extensas que si estudias un FP de Escuelas Infantiles (0-3 sólo), pues puedes entrar a trabajar tanto en una Escuela Infantil (0-3) como en un Colegio (3-6).

“No aprenderás inglés que es lo primero que te requieren cuando aplicas a un trabajo (Un nivel C1 para la CAM), tampoco ni ápice de inteligencia emocional o las conocidas metodologías alternativas.”

En el grado se estudian asignaturas respecto al desarrollo psicomotor, cognitivo, social, lingüístico, el desarrollo fetal y salud, pinceladas sobre neurología y cómo aprende el cerebro (neuroeducación), ed. musical y plástica, orientación a las familias y At. temprana... Sin embargo, a lo largo del grado no aprenderás inglés (se dan 2 asignaturas de las que poco se aprende) que es lo primero que te requieren cuando aplicas a un trabajo (Un nivel C1 para la CAM), tampoco ni ápice de inteligencia emocional o las conocidas pedagogías alternativas.

Sales de la carrera "desnudo" sin saber cómo contar un cuento, cómo llevar a cabo una asamblea, de programaciones ni hablamos, y de saber cómo enseñar a escribir/leer a tus alumnos menos. Y mi pregunta es, 4 años dedicados a aprender la profesión y esto es lo que me enseñan.

¿Qué hacer con tanta teoría si no tengo práctica dónde aplicarla?

Desde mi propia experiencia diré que la teoría es necesaria, pero siempre hay que poder aplicarla a la práctica porque como dijo Confucio: "Cuéntamelo y lo olvidaré. Enséñamelo y lo recordaré, pero déjame hacerlo y lo aprenderé". La práctica en mi caso vino de la mano del Máster de Psicomotricidad Vivencial que hice simultáneamente en mi último año de carrera. En el siguiente post os contaré un poco más a fondo a cerca del Máster de Psicomotricidad Educativa y Re-Educativa que estudié en Madrid en el centro Psicopraxis, que sin duda fue mi salvación y el que me hizo conectar toda esa teoría almacenada en mi cabeza con la realidad de un aula y lo que significa trabajar con niños.

Three years ago I finished my Early Childhood Education Degree in Madrid, Spain. But I still remember the excitement and the feelings during my first year of study, the emotions and bliss to learn and reach what I am today: a teacher.

I feel a strong passion for babies, humans and even animals, and that is something I have always had very clear. But I think my real motivation came from my childhood, where, together with my cousin, we spent our free time playing pretending to be teachers, we just loved doing some role play. Everything we saw, heard or watched, we copied it. I also think my love for this work is something familiar, my aunt is a teacher as well and having such a close reference, made me take my decision without any doubts.

How is nowadays the degree in Early Childhood Education in Madrid?

Following the studies guide of the University that I belong (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid) the duration of this degree is 4 years, where it is combined "theory and work experience". This degree allows you to work with children between 0-6 years old, which includes both cycles of Early Childhood Education in Spain: the first cycle: from zero to three years old; and the second cycle: from three to six years old. Therefore, when applying for a job, you can work in a kindergarten (créche) or in a school.

On the Degree we used to study about motor skills, cognitive, social and language development, the fetal growth and general health, neurology and how the brain learns (neuroeducation), as well as music and arts... Guide and support the families and early intervention, among other subjects.

However, the cons of this degree is that you do not learn english, which is one of the first requirements when you apply for a job in Spain, and neither about emotional intelligence or alternatives pedagogies, which I feel are really important issues to know about.

When you finally finish the degree you feel literally "naked" because you got a lot of knowledges, which of course are relevant, but you are not prepared to do important and daily things like: telling a story to a whole group, or how to run the circle-time or even how to teach literacy to your children.

So my question is: Four years to learn about a job and this is what I know?

What can I do with all this theory if I cannot apply it to a real situation?

Under my own experience, I have to stand out that to know the theory is always necessary, but it is necessary to have a go in real experiences because, as Confucius said:“Tell me and I forget it. Teach me and I remember it . Involve me and I learn it".

Fortunately my practice came along with the Vivential Psychomotricity Master which I combined during my last year of the degree. On the next posts I will explain more about the Psychomotricity Master which I have studied in Psicopraxis (Madrid, Spain), which was without

doubt my salvation as it helped me to link all this theory stored on my brain with the reality of a classroom and what really mean work with children.
